Consisting of over five thousand acres, the Econ River remains wild and enchanting. This freshwater river is lined by white beaches, sandy cliffs, and lush vegetation hanging over the river. Large trees loom precariously close to the river which feeds them, and many of these trees are swept into the river when floods rush through. They'll become fun obstacles which we’ll go over, under, and around, as we cruise down the winding Econ River.
A great thing about this trip is that the river flows with us, so paddling with the current is easy and at some points we even drift with the current, not paddling at all. Also, the entire trip is within state forest so there are no golf courses or luxury homes to detract from the relaxed Florida "vibe" which sets in about the second mile of our eight mile float. Sometimes we have carry-overs as we navigate the kayaks through the obstacles so minor physical abilities are needed to hop in and out of the kayaks.

| The initial land purchase was made by the Saint Johns River Water Management District in 1990. Near the end of our trip we’ll pass under the old State Road 13 Railway and Trestle which was part of the Flagler Railroad System in the early 1900’s. They were the first means of crossing the Econ River and are still used today by hikers on the Florida National Scenic Trail. |

(Camping out on the Econ.)!
|
|
While we’ll take the same trail as our day trips, this will be at a more relaxing pace and we’ll stop to smell the roses... or whatever wildlife, sandy beach, or rope swing catches our eyes. There are a few very special places on our way down the Econ which make for perfect camping. Imagine white sandy beaches climbing to shaded, grassy shorelines nestled beneath a canopy of enormous oak and palm trees. That’s where we’ll be!
